Man, I cannot get over how fabulous this music video is. New default icon.

I know people feel very strongly about either liking or hating the fierce bitch but mannnn I am completely in love with everything she does. She has this adoration for the corruption of fame and it just tickles me.

IN ANY CASE.

The world was on acid today and I can't stop crying because of it. Bittersweet memories of places that no longer exist can bite my ass.

It probably doesn't help that I keep answering IMs, falling back into the past as if I don't have a present to grasp onto. Why do I always do this? I'm the one talking to them sometimes. It's like I'm a glutton for punishment.

Computer cannibalized itself this morning, just now got it back up to speed. Still downloading drivers but luckily I had an OS lying around.

Apparently when it was doing its Windows Update last night it missed a kernel and got stuck on an endless loop of confusion, that one's new -- I have never seen that before.

Luckily, Vista was smarter than I give it credit for and it saved all of my programs in a Windows.old folder, so there isn't a mad dash to find disks. Zipping windows.old to its own drive, though, and will save it on a gmail somewhere in case this shit happens again.

All and all not a very good day.

I had a really horrible dream that I was the only survivor of my group of people I know during a zombie invasion and things just kept getting worse from there. There was a giant counter that would tell you what percent of the population was infected and what bit wasn't. The remaining humans were using a really neat cloaking technology, though. Except we all had to live in tents (there were people living in an apartment building a couple blocks over but they got eaten because of it).

This guy gave me a rose and it was a poignant moment, because I think roses went extinct due to whatever made everyone become zombies. It was half dried out but I was insistent that I was given some of the rationed water to keep it alive.

It's really bad when my own latent beliefs on loneliness and feeling as an outcast begin to work themselves into my subconscious. Obviously, I didn't sleep very well. Woke up restless.

Can't fucking wait for grad school applications.

Hunger's Brides

So. Hunger's Brides. I feel like such a retard that I was making fun of this book on the way home from the library. When Bree mentioned the protagonist's name -- Juana Inés de la Cruz -- it sounded like something I had heard before but nothing immediately came to mind.

I originally checked this book out based on its length. Literally, we saw it in the library stalls and at 1300+ pages, I took it as a challenge to get through and brought it home with me. Once I started it, I realized who the hell Juana Inés de la Cruz actually was when the first narrator referred to her as Sor Juana. And I felt like such an idiot for not putting two and two together. It's the goddamn Tenth Muse of Spain. I have her collection of poetry on my bookshelf.

Needless to say I'm really glad I brought this home now. I'm a sucker for historical fiction and especially about a woman such as Sor Juana. I blame the weird description on the dust jacket which called it 'erotically charged'. Honestly. Sincerely thought I had brought home a rotten egg 1300-paged bodice ripper.

Edit: In case anyone's interesting on learning about Sor Juana I'd highly recommend the project started some time ago to recount her life and times located here.
